Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024
Porter County held its first elections on February 23, 1836. The county did not have vote centers or polling locations like we have today. Porter County residents voted for their first governing officials using paper ballots and tally sheets. Residents walked or rode their horses to five designated homesteads acting as official polling sites hosted by William Gossett, Isaac Morgan, Morris Wilson, John Spurlock, and J. G. Jackson. The first elected Porter County Clerk was George W. Turner. Since then our election process has developed remarkably over time.
Today, our elections are done with more advanced technology. Jessica Bailey, the current Clerk of the Circuit Courts, along with the Porter County Elections & Voters Registration Office are glad to provide our voters with more convenient ways to vote. A huge improvement to how elections were held nearly 200 years ago!

The county now has 44 vote centers for residents to easily cast their ballots. Early voting lets residents vote before Election Day at specific Early Voting Sites or voting absentee by mail. Our election process is easier than ever, thanks to computerized touch screens! To help you prepare for the 2024 Elections, check out the helpful “How to Vote” videos.
